Reduced Superannuation Concessions for High Income Earners

Individual taxpayers with high income may soon be liable to pay Division 293 tax, which effectively reduces the superannuation tax concession you receive.

If your income for superannuation surcharge purposes, plus your superannuation contributions are greater than $300,000, you may have to pay an extra 15% tax on your superannuation contributions.

New Reporting Rules for Businesses in the Building and Construction Industry
      
The Australian Taxation Office ("ATO") has introduced a new mandatory reporting regime in its battle against contractors and the cash economy. The new regime broadly requires businesses primarily involved in the building and construction industry ('BCI') to report to the ATO, amounts paid to contractors and sub-contractors for the provision of building and construction services.

Compensation to Relatives - Personal Injury

We have recently been involved with a personal injury matter where the plaintiff's partner was involved in a motor vehicle accident. As a result of the accident the partner suffered fatal injuries.

The instructions we received involved an assessment for loss of dependency.
